there are very few foods this boy doesn't like. winston gave him a vegemite sandwich the other day. we all waited in anticipation for him to make a face so we could laugh. we got nothing. jokes on us. i don't think there is a candy on this earth he wouldn't eat. That being said, i have quite a funny story to tell. it might not be funny to you, but if you know howie it is pretty funny. we were in the grocery store and he and hatch were by the bulk candy asking if they could get this candy or that candy. i said, "no we have treats at home and in the car. we aren't buying anything." i herd a few grumbles and we headed to check out. at the cashier place he was swinging on the bars and doing what he does. we were almost home and i saw him in my rear-view mirror chewing something. i said, "howie, what are you eating?" he stopped chewing and said, "i don't want to tell you." i said, "howie, what are you eating?" he covered his mouth and said, "i don't want to tell you because you will get mad at me." he had nothing in his hands when we left. remember? he was swinging on the bars at the checkout, which means he stuffed whatever he was eating in his pocket. during our talk about stealing i had to keep looking away because i was trying not to laugh. i never thought i would have to worry about stealing with a three year old, but then again i should have known he would pull something like this because of his love for food.

hatch man lost his first tooth a couple weeks ago. a few days ago he lost another one. i don't know why i have such a hard time with these kinds of mile stones. it breaks my heart, not only because i love his teeth, but because it means he is growing up. in just a few short weeks he starts kindergarten. i hate that. i'm trying not to think about it too much, but it is creeping up quite quickly.

i told you the mohawk was short lived. he went from one extreme to the other. i told him we had to shave it off before church and he said, "why? why mom? mohawks are awesome. does jesus not love awesome things?"

li'l howie is no longer a momma's boy. every morning (without fail) when i open his door and say, "good morning", he replies with, "mom where's my daddy". although it breaks my heart a little that i'm not his #1 anymore, it is nice when he "wants daddy to do it".

and i'm having a hard time finding pants that will fit this gentle giant. i need husky pants but they don't come in toddler sizes. and the elastics don't help. they are all let out and still too tight. any suggestions???

thursday we picked up hatch from preschool and his teacher informed me he had eaten 2 reeses pieces (the little ones. he thought they were skittles). 2 hours after he ate them, this is what happened...

not the best picture but if you look closely you can see the blisters. they were all over his body. even on his eyelids. and this is in addition to him breathing all funny, coughing like an avid smoker, nose running, sneezing, trying to throw up; one of the scariest things i have ever seen. i hated it! he had to have two shots of epi with a steroid (in his bum) to open up his airways and a steroid breathing treatment. one of the doctors told us if we were 10 minutes later he would have been done. pretty quickly after the shots he was feeling a little better. they observed him for awhile and then let us go. poor kid. that was one of the worst things to see my child go through. i am so thankful for a calm husband and so thankful we live so close to our doctor. they were fabulous. such a fun day, to say the least!

i will start off with these adorable baby moccasins, made by susan from freshly picked. she gives some amazing tutorials and once i learn how to sew, her blog will be the first place i go. she is fantastic.

last night we were at a cabin near sundance. winn was scooping up some rocks on the bed of a river and came up with this.

if you look really close you can see the tip poking through the other side.

we went to the cabin next door to see if they had any tools. a dentist was eager to help out, although all he had was an old pair of pliers. and winn handled it like a champ!

i'm so glad it wasn't me. i would have freaked and would have to been life flighted out of there.

today hatch turned 4. i am having a very hard time with this. things have been so busy lately i haven't really thought about how fast he is growing up. today it hit me, and i don't like it.

saturday we threw him a super hero party with his friends. surprised? anyone who knows hatch knows of his obsession with super heroes. it was a fun party and i think i should get mother of the year for throwing it. i'm just glad it's over and done with.

everyone came in their favorite super hero costume. hatch is flash, for those of you who don't know your super heroes.

wolverine and batman showed up and the kids got a pola with them to take home. and yes i made that pinata. never again will i make one. that stupid thing took like 20 hours to make.

and today was also his last day of preschool. they had a circus day so that is why his teacher is dressed up like a clown.

okay so i got a lot of flack for my green goodness smoothies (ya babies). this one is much better and actually has spinach in it too.

1 banana

a bunch of spinach (i buy the big tub at costco)

1 small container yogurt optional (i like to use blueberry)

about 1 cup of frozen berries (i use natures three berries from costco. it's raspberries, blueberries, and marionberries)

1 scoop of cold milled flax optional (also purchased at costco)

water or apple juice (my mom uses soy milk & rice milk together)

throw in the blender and drink away. freeze the rest into popsicles.

my kids love it and i think you will like it much better too...

we went to BC to visit an old lady named ursula and oh how i love this place. i would live here in a heart beat! winston is so lucky to have a job where he can travel here. now i'm just trying to get him to transfer up here...but that will never happen.

we started out at the vancouver aquarium.

and how disgusting is this? bats give me the hevies!

and sweet grumpy old ursula bought us all of this chocolate. she told us we were not allowed to share because she spent so much money on it.

yesterday at costco hatch told the very nice corn dog sample lady she was fat. i didn't know what to do. she looked at me and i just smiled. i than looked down at hatch and said as nicely as i could, "hatch don't say that." he follows with, "well she is. she is fat mom." i looked back at the lady and said, "sorry, your not fat." (duh...like that would make it all better. i knew i was lying and she knew i was lying). she just gave me a smile, like the smile's that mean your mad and stop trying to make it better because your making it worse. i felt so stupid...

sunday night i was able to attend a fireside given by dr. daniel egan. he, along with 19 other doctors, volunteered their time and talents to help the haiti people. all i can think about is the stories he told with the pictures he showed. he saved many lives and restored hope. i wish there was something i could do...

my children despise veggies. i am lucky if they will eat one carrot. i try to sneak pureed veggies in their food and it sometimes works. i thought i would give this veggie smoothie a try and so far it's a hit. even winston will drink it. and you can freeze them into popsicles too. who doesn't love green popsicles?

a bunch of spinach (i mean a bunch, like packed in)

orange juice & ice

that's it. you can add more veggies if you want. i have tried zucchini and summer squash and it was okay. now go try it...you know you want to.

cirque du soleil...all i can say is simply amazing.

i absolutely love vegas. what's not to love? great food, great company, great shopping, and such a great place to people watch. we had a great time!

Where do I begin? Who knew what parenting would be like? Obviously not many people, otherwise there wouldn't be very many children. That being said (jokingly of course), you are everything to me. When dad and I found out you were coming I was hoping you would be a boy. I wanted a buddy. Someone I could wrestle with and be rough with. You were my first born. You gave me the gift of motherhood and I will never forget that instant bond we formed when you came into this crazy world. We have had some tuff times so far but you have definitely been worth it. Lately I feel it has been more often than not, so I am writing this little love note to remind you just how I feel about you, my sweet Hatch.

You are now three and very crazy. Almost a whole new person, but I have to say I love you crazy. I understand crazy. I love that dad and I are your best friend. You bring so much peace into our home. You hate it when dad and I argue. You tell us to "SHHH...stop talking!" I love your teeth and your little lisp. I love that you are so dang smart and can name dinosaur names I didn't even know existed. I love how timid you are with heights. I love that you come into our bed every morning and want to cuddle. I love when you say, "two more minutes." I LOVE how much you love dad. You get so excited when he comes home from work. I love your big hands and your shoulders. Most of all, I just love you Hatch. I could go on forever.

I want to thank you for teaching me and making me a better mom. I'm sorry you have to be the guinna pig, but I am trying my best. Every night I thank Heavenly Father for sending you to me. He is trusting me to raise you to the best of my ability. I hope I can be everything you need and more. I could not ask for a better son. You are PERFECT for me! So sweet and innocent. Your my number one guy and I love you more than you know.

the books in all their glory!

so he did it! Winston is amazing!!! i received nine out of the ten books from the classic series (they were out of pride and prejudice). if any of you are interested he found them here. when you get there you have to type in deluxe hardback classics and they will pop up:) the price is in canadian so it's actually less money than you think...not too shabby if you ask me.

i will admit i am obsessed with journal/sketch books. i have a gazillion of them. whenever my sweet mother goes traveling she will always bring one home for me. i LOVE it...to have something from a far away land that i can fill with my thoughts, drawings, pictures.

last summer my mother was in alaska on a bike ride and came to a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. it was an art gallery. mother went in and met the woman who owned this gallery. she said she was a fine woman, and i believe her. mother purchased another journal/sketch book from her and when i received it i quickly fell in love! it was handmade and very artsy. So...long story short she was the inspiration behind these little books i have been making.

(i should take a picture of hers and show you all because it is amazing)

anyway i made one for my niece and a couple of friends and have had a few people ask for some. i'm thinking about selling them on ETSY.

how great are these?

Awhile ago I saw this post and wanted these soooo bad. How great would they look on the shelf? Not to mention they are great reads. The covers are designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith. I got on the website where they told me to buy but they weren't there. I than checked other stores all around the world. Yes I called canada, the uk, and d word austraila, only to find nothing. I started to call places in the u.s. but all I got was, "were hoping to have them by mothers day in paper back." Paper back?! Who wants paper back with these amazingly designed covers?Ahhh do you feel my frustration? I spent almost one full day looking for these things. When Winston got home from work he spent well over an hour trying to find them. Maybe for mothers day he will pull out a miracle...

I have been a horrible blogger lately. I have just been soooo busy with kids, house work, making books (more on that latter), pretty much just busy with life. About a week ago Howard got tubes in his ears. Everything went great! Not so happy coming out of anesthesia but so far so good. I love the little gowns they put on the kids. And I LOVE those fat fat legs! Happy Easter!

EIGHT Dr. visits in less than a week (FOUR within less than 24 hours, TWO ER visits), RSV, Ear infections, diarrhea, vomiting...LOVING my life right now! Thank heavens for a WONDERFUL husband and this fabulous Dino nebulizer!

25 Random things tag

I was tagged by Tami. Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. 1. I have the best kids and husband ever (most of the time)! 2. I LOVE the rain. 3. I wish I lived in the 60's and 70's. 4. I am a FREAK with odd numbers. I have my alarm clock set on an odd number. I have the volume on the t.v. and car radio on an odd number. I rock Howard in his rocking chair an odd number of times before I put him down. If I don't it bothers me. Sometimes I try to get over it and rock Howard an even number of times but when I do he ALWAYS sleeps lousy. Or that's my excuse! 5. I have a thin leather bracelet that I NEVER take off. When I had Howard the nurse told me to take it off for the iv and I told her to put it in the other hand. She said I had to take it off so I switched it to the other hand and that was the first time I took it off in 4 years. That's probably why my epidural didn't work. 6. I sleep in sweats. 7. I hate meat but I eat it when I'm pregnant and nursing. The things you do for your kids. 8. I hate milk. 9. I'm such a daddy's girl. I LOVE my momma to death but there is just somethin' about my pops! 10. If Winston folds my laundry I refold it. I know that sounds rude but it's too bulky and doesn't fit right when I put it away. 11. My favorite/lucky number is 11. 12. My favorite color is green. I ALWAYS save my green candy for last or in any situation if there is a green choice I will ALWAYS choose that one. In games if I'm not the green piece I ALWAYS loose and that's why. 13. I am theeeee favorite child/sibling. 14. I LOVE sleeping on my stomach. 15. I want to adopt. 16. I fidget. I'm the one who is always clicking the pen or popping lids or whatever. 17. I can't go to bed without brushing AND flossing my teeth. Even if it's for a nap. 18. I HATE dusting. 19. I absolutely LOVE Led Zeppelin. 20. I want to move out of state. 21. I love exercising. I just wish I could have the energy and time to do it more. 23. I hate long fingernails. They are pretty on other people and I try sometimes I just can't do it. Maybe it's because I have MAN HANDS! 24. My food can't touch another food on my plate. I hate it when Winn mixes all his food together. He mixes his country fried steak with hash browns and eggs with hot sauce and it makes me sick. Just the thought... 25. I LOVE desert! Cookies, ice cream, anything bring it on!
